A Dog Named Dumpling

Here at Heavenly Horses nonprofit, we normally focus on rehabbing horses, but when we formed this organization, our mission was always bigger: to inspire positive life experiences through horses and other animals. So when a sweet dog showed up outside our barn a few days ago, we couldn’t turn her away, even though she’s not a horse. We’re so happy to help her, and we hope her story inspires others to help animals in need just like her.

Dumpling At Her Vet Appointment

She arrived skin and bones, with bald patches all over her skin and her hind end malformed and not as stable as it should be. We could tell right away she had a lot going on. We took her to the vet, where they found no microchip, a major parasite infection, and a skin infection. The vet estimates she’s about a year old and has most likely lived her entire life in a cage, that’s why her hind end developed so awkwardly.

We’ve named her Dumpling, and in the short time we’ve had her, she’s been an absolute joy. She gets along wonderfully with everyone at the farm, the dogs, cats, horses, and she loves children.

Dumpling is going to need continued care, medications, good food, vet follow-ups, and time to heal. If you’re in a position to help and feel inclined, we’d be so grateful for anything you can give toward her care and supporting our program. No pressure at all, we completely understand that times can be tough for many right now. You can visit our donate page at www.heavenlyhorses.org/donate.

Her story doesn’t stand alone. Just days before Dumpling appeared, we were considering bringing in a miniature horse, a yearling in desperate need due to likely genetic issues, malnutrition and neglect.

I prayed for God to guide me in the decision about the mini. I wanted all other voices in my head to be blocked out and only to hear God’s voice. I expected a yes or no. What I got was a…not yet. The very next day, Dumpling appeared in our lives. In that moment, it all made sense. Our available resources were redirected to give Dumpling’s immediate, urgent need the attention she deserves.

We still hope to welcome the mini into our program soon, where she can receive the full rehabilitation that our program provides.

Any donations beyond what’s needed for Dumpling’s care will go straight toward helping horses currently in our program or horses in need of our program. Thank you for reading.

With gratitude,
The Heavenly Horses Team
